Questions About Substance Use Disorder Services

Do I need a referral to receive services?

Many TTBH services accept self-referrals. Depending on the service, a referral from a physician, school, or another provider may be recommended or required. Contact TTBH and a staff member will help determine the best way to begin.

How do I request services?

Call TTBH or use the available online contact options. A member of the team will help identify the appropriate next step based on your needs.

What happens during my first appointment?

Your first visit typically includes a conversation or assessment to better understand your needs, goals, and available options. This information helps the care team recommend appropriate services.

How long does it take to begin services?

Timeframes vary depending on the service requested, clinical need, location, and appointment availability. TTBH staff can provide more specific information when you contact the organization.

Who is eligible for services?

Eligibility depends on the program, age, residence, clinical needs, and other program requirements. TTBH staff can explain the criteria that apply to a particular service.

Do I have to live in a certain county?

Many TTBH services are designed for residents within the organization’s service area. Contact TTBH if you are unsure whether a program is available where you live.

Do you accept insurance?

Many services work with Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, or other funding sources when appropriate. Coverage and billing vary by service.

What if I do not have insurance?

Lack of insurance does not automatically prevent someone from receiving services. TTBH staff can discuss available programs, funding sources, and payment options.

How much do services cost?

Costs vary based on the service, eligibility, insurance coverage, and available funding. Contact TTBH for information specific to your situation.

Can I receive services through telehealth?

Some services may be available through telehealth when clinically appropriate. Availability varies by program and individual need.

Can a family member attend an appointment?

Family participation may be encouraged when appropriate and with the individual’s consent. Requirements may differ for children and adolescents.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Contact TTBH as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Advance notice helps staff offer the appointment time to someone else.

What if I need immediate help?

If you or someone you know is experiencing a behavioral health crisis, call the TTBH Mental Health and Substance Use Crisis Hotline at 1-877-289-7199. Call 911 when there is immediate danger.

Are crisis services available 24 hours a day?

TTBH provides 24-hour crisis hotline access and can connect callers with appropriate crisis response services.

How are services selected?

Recommendations are based on an assessment of individual needs, preferences, strengths, and goals. The care team works with the individual or family to identify appropriate options.

Can I receive more than one service?

Yes. Many individuals receive multiple coordinated services when that combination supports their care plan and goals.

How often will I receive services?

The frequency and duration of services depend on the program, assessed needs, treatment plan, and progress toward individual goals.

Will my information remain confidential?

TTBH follows applicable privacy laws and protects personal and health information. Staff can explain privacy practices and the limited circumstances in which information may need to be shared.

Can I stop services at any time?

Individuals may discuss changes or concerns with their care team. When possible, the team will help plan a safe and appropriate transition or discharge from services.
